A Lot to be Thankful for
November 25, 2009
Over the last week there were some very special events that took place. We saw the beginnings of two outreach ministries, the culmination of one, and the building of another. As a pastor I love to see this happening because it means that God’s purpose is being accomplished and people are allowing God to work through them.
Last week we saw two new outreach opportunities begin. First was a BBQ to servicemen and women on Vandenberg AFB. They asked us to feed about 55 people on Friday night but we ended up feeding close to 90 when it was all said and done. We had a great crew of people preparing the food and the Base Chapel was very pleased with our efforts. We are praying that this will only be the beginning of God using our church on base.
We also put together 25 Thanksgiving baskets to give to needy families on Sunday. So much was donated that our storage room was overflowing with food. We had a ton of people come after services on Sunday to fill baskets and deliver them. I am told that each family was in desperate need of food and that all of them were so blessed by our gift. We are now praying that we can continue this ministry into Christmas and the next year by meeting these families needs.
The Men’s ministry also had a BBQ & Bible Study out at Los Alamos Park on Saturday. Over 20 men came out for a good time of God’s Word, good food, and a horseshoe tournament. I am excited to see how God is building our Men up in the scriptures.
Finally we saw the Fall semester of the Women’s study end with a bang. They are studying 1 Corinthians and so many women were blessed by it this fall. They will start it up again in January so stay tuned for details.
I have a lot to be thankful for in all of these ministries because they are led by capable people. We are so blessed with so many of them at the church. I was able to be on vacation and enjoy while all of these events took place. What a blessing!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday,
